I need a new manual the chilton's (28502) I have is so bad they show 90-96 vetts having 5.7 DOHC for a engine option of course they do say it covers all U.S. and Canadian models I always knew the Canadians where getting a better deal first free health care now twin over head cam GM V8's :D
The engine in question is called the LT5. Which is the main part of the option package called ZR1. A twincam 32 valve 5.7 litre V8. The car is called the "King of the Hill".
The engine was designed by GM and Lotus and built by Mercury Marine.
It is a great motor with a fantastic history. Expensive, sure, but with a reputation of bullet proof reliability.
The ZR1 was available in model years 1990 thru 1995.
There were some other differences:
- Wider rear body work (doors back)
- different rear suspension geometry
- unique rear wheels
- full option list. there were no options but colour.
- a slightly modified version of the ZF6 manual gear box - auto not available
The first get LT5s put out 375 hp, the 93-95 versions put out 405.
that about sums up the major differences... oh, the option was about $31,000.00!!!!! that was just for the OPTION.
There is more history, but its will be fun to find it! There is a ZR1 section here, check it out!
