I bought this car 12 days ago. Previous owner had a fire after alternator caught on fire and burned the alt wires, which I believe I repaired correctly and I had to replace the alternator, upper radiator hose, power steering reservoir. I was hopeful that I could hook up the alternator wires and things would be ok, however they don’t seem to be. The on board gauge reads12 volt and I used a volt meter on the main wire, stud to ground reeds 33 volts. Not sure what is going on. Last night it was getting dark out side and at the plug in it glowed, so I shut it off right away and thought I would come to this forum for help. Thank David, phone number is425-315-6424, not sure calls are ok I’m new to this

What is your voltage at the battery?? Think you might need a new voltmeter!
I had the same problem with mine, altornater read 28 volt.
the alternator wire runs all the way to the starter and there, theres a bunch of wires, i belive 4 wires that hook up to the starter wich then tranfers power to the batery, those wires and been melted because it was too close to the headers.
Changed the wires, it worked perfectly, 13.5 - 14 volt at batery, now you dont need to change all the wires, just change it from where it burned wich is between to the windsheild washer tank and the motor.
