I think my rear hatch actuator is bad. I read somewhere (maybe this forum) that when it starts randomly popping open is an indication. I'm going to replace it anyway as a start. This is just a thought and I admit I haven't looked into it yet, but has anyone replaced the actuator from maybe a Cadillac with a soft close trunk? I mean where I could close it softly and the latch would slowly pull it tight?
I looked at pictures of both actuators. I don't think it's possible without a lot of modifications. The two designs are opposites. The Cadillac latch has the loop part in the trunk itself and a catching mechanism in the lid. The loop part is the part that pulls down. I think it could be done but it's more time and money than I want to pursue.
Don't know the year of your car, but a bad PKE module will cause this too. Unplug the PKE fuse to see if it stops, if it does then it's mostly likely the PKE module.
I pulled the PKE fuse as suggested. So far, so good. I'm going to keep a watch on it for a while but I think this worked. Thank you to everyone who suggested this!
