Just picked up my 1st Corvette today. It's an 87 with 66K miles on it. What I've been able to find so far is that it's one of 403 in the two tone silver/gray combo. Automatic so the wife can drive it. Overall in great condition considering it's 36 years old. Besides cleaning it up, the first thing I plan to do is upgrade the wheels and tires to 17". The tires on it appear to be around 15 years old according to the date codes. Can't find 255/55-16 tires anymore.
Goldfinger24K Welcome to the madness and the forum! Your 87 looks pretty clean. Check the RPO codes. If you don't have the Z51 option you should have 16 x 8.5 wheels. Many are going to 245/50-16 tires. There are quite a few brands in that size. The diameter difference is negligible. I recently recieved a notice from Coker Tire. They are taking advance orders for a 255/R-16 tire. They are pricey at over a grand for a set of 4 IIRC.
for the zr1 wheels, you either have nitto or conties.
I don't think the OP mentioned anything about going with ZR1 wheels. If they stay with 8.5 or 9.5 17's there are lots of options. If they do want to go ZR1 style there are Toyo 888's. That's what I have on my 92 ZO7 with A mold reproductions.
