The carpet in the rear cargo area is wrinkled and bulging, mostly around the wheel wells. Anyone fixed this before. I really don’t want to remove the carpet, but I would if it came down to it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Removing the carpet is not hard at all, just the speaker grilles and targa top holders holing it in place. First you have to find out why it's bulging and wrinkled. Then worry about replacement or removal.

Re: Need a carpet fix. (Mr Mojo)
My carpet bulges and wrinkles around the wheel wells too. Would it be possible to stretch it up and then tack or screw it into place, or is total replacement usually the best?
I suppose you could lift out the center portion and fasten the edges down around the wheelwell. The front part tucks in under the halo panel, the rear is held in by the speaker grill and of course the targa top holders hold them somewhat in the middle.
The later years have a rubber backing. On my "new" '96 interior that I put in my '93, they were folded in half for transport and the rubber cracked, so I duct taped the cracks to help keep them somewhat smooth and reinstalled the carpet.
I suppose you could take a sharp knife and trim off any excess and put screws in underneath the trim where it can't be seen.
I've noticed that the carpet isn't exactly a tight fit anyway.
