Thanks everyone who responded to my post about the smog/air pump question I had. Here’s a picture of the before and after of the smog/air pump delete. Going to be installing the test tube this week and annoying my neighbors ha.
Are you able to remove the smog pump completely, or does it require more serious disassembly that's not evident from the photos?
hi this is a 1984 corvette so I have no idea about the later years. I left the smog pump still there without anything attached the 2 wires in the back and I removed the piping and caped it off at the headers. Only reason if I left it bolted on is because when I put on the shorter pulley it pulls the power steering bracket closer to one side of the motor. With the pump still connected it gives the power steering bracket no play. I have seen on the later years you can buy a bolt on pulley in place of the smog pump and it’s fine. Hope this helps any more questions I’ll try my best to answer.
So it appears as tho all you needed to do was remove the pulley from the smog pump and get a shorter belt? How much shorter?
it’s a 85 belt and I also capped off the tubes coming off of the headers With 1/2 cap. I’ll provide a picture of the tubes capped off for reference. You can leave the catalytic converter tube alone because it’s a one way valve and will not shoot exhaust under your hood. I’ll be removing the cat air tube this week once I install the test pipe.
The belt for an '85 is 5/8" longer than an '84
88 7/8" vs 89 1/2”
One would expect the length needed to be 3-4" shorter when not going up and around the smog pump

I should have clarified more my fault it’s a 85 inch belt. Not a 1985 corvette belt. Just a 85inch belt. Hope this clears things up.
Oh ok, I see my reading error now. Thank you for this thread. Tired of hearing my pump @ idle but not willing to buy a delete pulley
no problem glad this answered some questions. One thing I forgot to add when it comes to putting on the 85inch belt you route it like the oem diagram but I left the water pump pulley as the last one, held the belt tensioner and slide the belt over the water pump pulley. That for me was the easiest way to put on the belt.
