Default 86 Passenger Power Window

I appeal to the wisdom and experience of the forum. Just this morning I lower the window on the passenger side. When I went to put it up it stopped a few inches from closing and made a ratcheting sound, kinda of like when you are using a battery-powered drill to drive a screw and it's gone all the way. When I go to power it down it would go a few inches down with no sounds and stops, and stops with no sound. When I move it back to the up position, it will go up, stop short and then make that ratcheting sound again. Any advice is appreciated.

Plastic gearing and/or window regulator is broken.

Yep, what Top said. You can replace the window regulator ribbon, which is most likely missing some teeth, or you can upgrade the regulators to the 87+ scissor jack style if you're feeling adventurous.

Thanks all! I'm undecided about attempting this myself or paying to have this done. I thought this day might come, lol

If you pull the interior door panel off you should be able to see the problem. Decide from there if it is something you want to tackle

I replaced the ribbon on mine, it was quite some time ago but I don't remember it being difficult, I do remember spending some time cleaning old dried grease out of the gear on the motor, I think that was recommended to me.
