One of the keys to installing a windshield in a C4 is knowing ....... how to remove the surrounding exterior trim without bending & wrecking it. That trim is unobtainum.
When mine was replaced the expert removed the old one from inside the car & put the new one in the same way. No touching the trim.
I think that replacing a windshield on a C4 ....... similar to upholstery ...... is a skill that take a while to master.
I’ve replaced glass before but on my vette I think I’d trust a pro who knows these cars and just spend the money. I’m all about doing everything myself but I don’t know if that’s a job I’d do as a first experience. Although, if you’re confident and read up on all available resources, I’m sure it’s doable with good results. Rear glass on a pickup truck after a bad load shift, not problem. I just see the extreme angle of a C4 windshield and the trim being a challenge.
Go to the ZR1 Registry https://www.zr1netregistry.com and inquire about a replacement windshield. They worked with a glass manufacturer who makes the exact replacement for C4s.
The windshield for the ZR1 will fit other C4 Vettes
Look up Pilkington Glass. A leading manufacture of auto glass. See what dealers are in your area.
They will have what you need, also they have a "Classics Line" of glass.
Some is old NOS LOF glass.
Due to the high cost of the repro non NCRS approved ZR1 replacement windshields many owners install standard C4 windshields . The repros which are easily identified as such sold for around $3000.00 . Not really a viable option for vast majority of C4 owners.
I can get one from safelite installed, or purchase one from Corvette Central (or others) and install myself.
Any recommendations?
Do you have free glass replacement with your vehicle insurance, if so, they usually have reputable companies you can chose from do the replacement. I recently had mine done by one, and couldn't be happier (they also replaced the weather stripping around the windshield included).
check out thread I started with this topic, Safelite sux. I just got mine replaced last week, but i had to get the weatherstripping (corvette central) and aluminum trim (Dino's Corvette salvage)

I just replaced mine last week. These statements above are false. The trim is available and it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the windshield from inside the car.

I've watch a pro replace the windshield in my C4....three times.
This is not something for a DIY'er.
You'll end up saving money having a professional do it.
Trust me.

Well I don't know what to tell you but 15 years ago in April of 2008 the specialist (who was recommended by the corvette shop that has been maintaining both of my vettes for many years) came to the parking lot of the boat shop where I worked and explained to me that he would be removing & replacing it from inside my 95. I did not stand there and watch the entire process but when it was time, he came into the office and asked for an extra pair of hands and I went out and assisted as he removed the LOF glass out of the car from the drivers side door. A few minutes later I came out again and helped slide the replacement Pilkington unit into the car from the passenger side after which I went back inside the office and he finished the job. The entire process took (if I recall correctly) a little over two hours. Cost <$400.00
