I don't know about your 2 chioces, but I have been told by window guys to try and get a 3M tint if I tint my windows. 3M is one of the best products I was told. Don't have any other details about it though.

I've always used 3M, no problems. The one time I used solarguard, it lasted about 2 years and then turned purple. Had to replace with 3M.

i vote llumar, but whatever brand you choose DO NOT GET DYED FILM!!! Each brand makes a dyed film and this film is crap, get a high performance film, these high performance films last alot longer, dyed film is the ugly pruple bubbled up crap you see around town. high performance have metals in them and hold their color longer, puls you get way better heat rejection with high performance film, i can recommend the ATR stealth film, centaur, and platinum plus film from llumar. as for the other brands i dont know because i have used llumar only for 14 years. just remember high performance film and you will be ok.

what is the difference between stealth, centaur, and platinum plus? i am looking for something that is similar in shade to the OEM solar-ray tint found on the GM trucks. i know they do not use a film, but rather a glass-burn chemical, but i really want it to look like that.

the differences are...stealth is a hybrid film which means its a metalized/dyed film combo, has alittle sheen to it because of the metal in the film, centaur is a sputtered film and is metalized with no dye in it, and this film is more shiny thatn the atr film, platinum plus is a sputtered metalized film that is warranted against fading, none of these 3 will match factory tint though, only the dyed film will match the factory tint. AT charcoal is a good match from llumar, but its a dyed film thats the downer. thats what i use for matching trucks and suv is the AT charcoal we install 35% here because thats whats legal but the 20% is almost a dead match as far as darkness goes.

I'm also looking at getting my tint redone on back window, but I've heard that the metallic and/or polarized tints will make my radar detector basically ineffective. I'm not sure if all metallic tints are polarized, or if all polarized tints will hurt radar.

It seems to me that if the tint is more reflective to radar, that I'd be more likely to get zapped from behind. What's the most durable tint/best quality tint, taking this into account?

i tinted a dps camaro backglass with llumar ATR stealth high performance film a month ago, his radar was right there in the back facing out, i thought about that....went ahead and tinted the backglass and they have never called back so it must still work :lol i have to be honest with you, the radar thing i have no idea  metalized film will lessen the reception of some radios but i have never had any info on the radar though. i`ll ask around about that radar thing.

kawboy5792.....if you have a madico dealer near they have a film called "charcool" its dyed and it has a lifetime warranty which is unheard of for a dyed film.

What timing on this topic, I just got back from looking ay tint

I am looking at non reflective metallic tint. I too was worried about reception under the tint. I'd like to put my XM antenna by the hatch latch.

One dealer has llumar and the other has formula one. I brought home 2 samples, one dyed, one metallic. Under flourescent lights the dyed tint already looks a bit purple!!! :U

 Cool! I might go cheap and try and match the tint on the side windows instead of redoing the whole car. This could limit my options.. but I still don't wanna cut off my nose to spite my face. I'm gonna head out to campus tomorrow and get my "good student" status verified for an insurance reduction!

84fromhell i like tha name  formula one is one of llumars films with a twist, this film goes with the marketing strategy of formula one, they have certian standards a shop must have to gain the dealership, not everyone can deal formula one film, it is a good film, metalized and guaranteed against fading. formula one has its own seperate marketing that sets it apart from llumars other films, and yes the dyed films will look purpleish out of the box.

I have had both 3M and Lumar and could not tell the difference. They both come with lifetime warranties against fading, peeling etc. The only thing that was really noticeable was the price. The 3M cost me about 50% more.

Just make sure that you go to a reputable shop because we all know what a bad tint job looks like, and you don't want that! Good luck with whatever you choose though.

Default Which tint brand?

Metallic film ONLY looks good on certain colors. It has a "GOLDISH" shade to it. I had it on my vette. With the blue to me it looked horrible. I yanked everything off and went to a "DYED" 5% Johnson film LIMO. It looks soo much better(Yes all around Limo). The metallic film looked ok on the car when it was Red. Something about it clashed with the blue. JMHO.

I feel naked without tint! Oh, the metallic stuff was Ray-Ban.

that ATR looks nice, but it looks a little blue to me...i want a tint that will match that matte black rim around the rear window. in the pic above you can clearly see where the tint stops and the window trim begins. also, that rear is kind of easy to see through...isnt limo usually totally opaque from the outside?
