Fog lights
Ok, I have one down on my 93. I have the manual on how to replace them, so thats no biggie, but, I'm wondering... Is there a "Silver Star" of fog lights? I'd like something good, that will light up the road, but, I'm not looking to go nuts either. Cost matters to me. I dont have silverstar headlights (opted for GE Cool Blue.... sorry, but couldnt find the silvers.... and the cool blue's arent "blue" they are white, so its not ricey looking)
And, do the fog lights even do anything for the road? I didnt notice one was out, until I saw the reflection in the bumper of a car, and noticed it was out. Is it just a cosmetic deal? Not much fog here in Florida, but I do like the looks of them being on.
i was also very curious about this as me and a friend went to about three stores yeterday looking for higher wattage bulbs for my fog lights and could not find any at all any input on this?
These are 50 watt bulbs instead of 27 or 33 watts.
You can use either the 885's or 886's. The 885's are for '84 to '90 years and I used the 886's in my '94. The earlier years are straight and the later years are right angle (886).
In the earlier years you may have a 10 amp fuse and will need to swap in out for a 15 amp fuse. It is the taillight fuse you need to replace.
Check Tech articles for Lars Grimsrud's paper on it.
Absolutely check out the tech tip before upgrading the fog lights to a higher wattage 885 bulb... depending upon your car's wiring, modifications may have to be made to the ground wiring or else your headlights may glow, even when they are off!!!
Gene...you have nothing to upgrade when you replace the bulb...I looked into this as well and it turns out the 93's came with the 50 watt bulb OEM...I did a search for Fog Lights and all the info was there... good luck
p.s. I just noticed an above post...Lars is the guy..read his stuff...I emailed him and he told me we already had the brighter bulb...geez, I can't type today
