Floor Mat Refreshing
The dye is Graphite in color and the white nylon brush is used to scrub the carpet between coats of dye. I cleaned the carpet prior to painting with the turtle wax product. Other products would work just as well.
The mats were vacuumed to remove any debris. Next I used the turtle wax carpet cleaner. I followed the instructions on the can and let the mats dry overnight. Followed with another round of vacuuming prior to painting. This was as clean as I could get them. They are stained pretty badly and are very faded.
The mat on the right shows the difference after the dyeing process is complete. I put three light coats of dye on this. The first coat was sprayed from left right. I allowed a minute of dry time then took a stiff nylon brush to the mat to loosen up the fibers so that they would not dry together. This is crucial to get good results. The second coat was painted from top to bottom this time followed by the nylon brush. The third coat was painted in a diagonal direction.
They are not perfect and they still show signs of male pattern baldness where the heal of the driver and passenger has dug into the mats. The color matches ok enough but probably wouldnt pass any judging process. Its just a quick and cheap way to freshen up your interior from off the shelf paints/dye. They are however way better than they were and well worth the effort.
