Default Code Reader for 1989 Coupe

Hi guys, I’m new here and new to Corvettes. I always wanted a C4 since I was kid. My dad had one-so many great memories with him and that car. Anyways, I just picked up an 89 Coupe, 6 speed, Z51 and FX3 with 68k on it. It runs and drives good but needs a few things. I’ve had a lot of OBDII cars over the years that I’ve worked on but never OBDI. What code reader would you guys recommend for this particular year of C4? I’m sure I’ll have many more questions to come but thought I would start here. Thanks all!

The older autoxray ezlinks work fine/easy and give you live data. Less than $150.00 on ebay. Just make sure they include the cables, including GM.

Thanks drive it. I just found one eBay with the ALDL connector cable and ordered it.

With that and then buy a factory service manual and you're way ahead!

Factory service manuals on the way too! Now to decide which weatherstrip brand/price point to buy. Sounds like I definitely want it US made and not the overseas stuff. At least from the little bit I’ve read so far. I should probably make another thread for that if needed though.

89 6-speed. Congrats! Great choice, dude, and welcome to the fold. You'll love it! The C4 (and C3) is a tinkerers dream. The best code reader you'll find is this forum.
