Dad's 96 C4
I have a 1996 C4 base that was my Dad's until he passed away last January long story short took it for one last ride because when my dad was alive I only got to drive at once and my mom got rid of it and I found it a month and a half after she got rid of it at a dealership and they let me take it for one last ride and I took my boss with me and we got back to the dealership my boss bought me my dad's car just this week I went to go get supplies to change oil stopped at a dealership after 5 Mile Drive to get some BG 44k and some BG Moa got back in the car to go get the oil got on the interstate and the car would not go into 3rd or Overdrive and I'm pretty upset and heartbroken cuz I think I'd let my dad down I used to be a diesel mechanic long ago but Transmissions were never my thing I'm desperately looking for advice and help I have no trouble codes the car runs fine it works in reverse and first and second it gets to the shift point for third gear and it's like going in neutral and the same thing with overdrive and I went ahead and hooked up my code reader just to verify that there is no trouble codes and there is not so I'm pretty well perplexed and a damn Transmissions out in my 2016 Silverado only have first and third gear first second and third gears out of six so this is not been the month for transmissions for me I could please you some help with the Corvette though, I did change tranny fluid and filter just to see if that would do anything and it did not. thank you
Forst off, welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting your father's car back. I would love to see pictures of the car. You definitely have one incredible boss, thats for sure! I can't imagine many people doing that for one of their employees.
My assumption is that 3-4 clutch pack is giving up the ghost or has totally failed. It would be good to verify line pressure between shifts as well. Do not rule out the shift solenoids. It would be good to remove each one and test it just to be sure. My guess is a faulty 3-4 clutch pack unfortunately.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to answer my question, I am very humbled for your reply. First off I'm not completely mechanically on inclined though I was a diesel mechanic for 13 or 14 years back in the late 90s early 2000s and now I'm a commercial plumber anyway I never saw automatic transmission in the diesel feel so I'm not real familiar with transmissions automatic transmissions in cars your line pressure testing that what do I need and how do I go about doing that and I believe you mentioned this shift solenoids I got to drop that trainee pan for that right and fill out the valve body and if that is not correct please advise me and Dan how do I go ahead and check the shift solenoids can I just use a multimeter and see if there's resistance in them lots of solenoids I'd check I check to see if there's any resistance and then if there is I know that night percent of the time they're good and knowing if the solenoids are normally open or normally closed is very important I understand that I just if you could direct me that would be great tomorrow is Dad's birthday and I'd really like you out and drive the car just even in town even though I only know I got first and second gear I'm just so disheartened and my 2016 Chevy Colorado with the same 4L60E piece of **** transmission I only have first second and third gear in that so I'm currently looking for a transmission for that too so this is not my month for transmissions which I'm just I'm just I got so much **** running through my head I don't know which way to turn I really appreciate your your response thank you so much and I hope to hear back from you have a good night thank you
