Default 6-SPD Shift Sequence

I have a C4 6SPD manual. I find myself shifting from 1 to 3 to 5 to 6 and skipping 2 and 4 most times. Does anyone else shift in this manner or skip certain gears, or do you use the full 1-6 in rotation? I feel like shifting through all 6 gears is unnecessary.

With cags disabled I usually go up in order.

I have never liked lugging a motor and i go through all the gears. Seems like turning it up to at least 3k it just sounds and shifts better. I also like to hear a cam thump when going along at 1500 rpms.

I'm upshifting at/near the speeds listed in the manual (1to 4) unplugged. By 40 it's in 4th gear, keeping rpm between 1000 -1500 while driving.

downshift per manual = brake until almost stopped, press clutch move to nuetral.
unless the light's green, then down by numbers as neccessary.

it drives great this way, smooth effortless shifts, 90 6speed.

Man, I've been driving manuals so long, I barely even think about it. I have functional CAGS as well.

In my 6spd Corvettes, I shift through each of the gears in order. I like the way the car feels and sounds going through each gear. In my 84 4+3, I keep the overdrive off and shift 1-4 in order and use overdrive as a 5th gear.

I paid a lot of money for 6 speeds, I use everyone of them. When there's room enough.

why skip gears? what a diminished driving experience. My CAGS was enabled at first and seemed so bizarre skipping gears, by day 2 I disabled it. The light still functions, makes me laugh.

You can disable cags in about 2 minutes, idk why anyone would ever leave it on.

I can’t speak for the other gears but ZF Doc stressed not shifting into 6th from any gear other than 5th. My guess is 5th allows you to pull straight down into 6th, without risking reverse.

Any idea why only c4’s have that skip shift sequence?

i know its to achieve epa fuel econ numbers

but why dont the newer c5,6,7 manual trans cars also have that annoying feature

(the reason isnt that they get better fuel econ)

Hello, I've driven stick shifts exclusively all my life, 3 speeds, 4 speeds, 5 speeds, and 6 speeds and in 60 years and a million miles I have never deliberately skipped a gear.
