I have a C4 6SPD manual. I find myself shifting from 1 to 3 to 5 to 6 and skipping 2 and 4 most times. Does anyone else shift in this manner or skip certain gears, or do you use the full 1-6 in rotation? I feel like shifting through all 6 gears is unnecessary.
I have never liked lugging a motor and i go through all the gears. Seems like turning it up to at least 3k it just sounds and shifts better. I also like to hear a cam thump when going along at 1500 rpms.

In my 6spd Corvettes, I shift through each of the gears in order. I like the way the car feels and sounds going through each gear. In my 84 4+3, I keep the overdrive off and shift 1-4 in order and use overdrive as a 5th gear.
why skip gears? what a diminished driving experience. My CAGS was enabled at first and seemed so bizarre skipping gears, by day 2 I disabled it. The light still functions, makes me laugh.

Exactly how I drive mine. (94, '94, 95, 96 6speeds and '85, 87 4+3)
I can’t speak for the other gears but ZF Doc stressed not shifting into 6th from any gear other than 5th. My guess is 5th allows you to pull straight down into 6th, without risking reverse.
Hello, I've driven stick shifts exclusively all my life, 3 speeds, 4 speeds, 5 speeds, and 6 speeds and in 60 years and a million miles I have never deliberately skipped a gear.
