Opti installation question
My engine is on the stand and I had to push hard to get the opti past the seal. So I took it off and noticed the seal was really hard, so being from the school of, if it's tight, lube it. So I put a little lubriplate on the seal and surface of the opti. Slid in no problem, verified top dead center and rotor to cyl. 1 buttoned it up. A friend came by and we adjusted the lifters and I told him what I did with lube on the seal and he said I ruined the seal now, because it's Teflon, and supposed to be hard and dry for installation. We only rotated the engine a few times by hand to adjust valves. So do I need to take the opti back off and change to a new seal or can I just clean it up with some brake clean, reinstall it and run it, or let it be with the lube on it. Reading instructions online it says it's to be installed and run dry. Need to do it before i put the water pump on and install the engine. Thanks for any help.

Well, There are sure a lot of C4's that seep a little oil out of the water pump seal or china wall that will drip down to the opti seal. If a little oil caused failure of the opti seal they would be failing all over the place. I always wondered if the "install dry" was referring to the outside of the seal or the seal itself. Dan
