I've had my 90 Vette for a little over a year now with no problems with VATS, about a month or two ago it had been working intermittently, working most of the time, but then when it doesn't i have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it, then it starts up no problem.
I have already bypassed the key cylinder with the correct resistor, no change, works intermittently.
Next I tried replacing the starter relay, no change, still intermittent.
Now I wouldn't need to make a post about this, but all the fixes I've found here on the forum all have links to products that are no longer made, or the links just don't work anymore.
I have a feeling that it is the VATS module itself that is bad and A, either needs taken out and fixed or B, it needs to come out or completely bypassed.
I have seen where you can buy a new ECU chip and disable VATS, but I am not looking to spend the money for one, especially on a stock car.
any thoughts, where is the VATS module on the 90? I can only find posts for the 89 and below for the location.

Vats module doesn’t exist in 90-96. It is in the CCM. Most of what you read for fixes only works up to 89. Everything beyond that, most people don’t understand and info suggested is usually just bad.

well that'll explain it. so then what would cause it to not work properly? does that mean ill have to get it reprogramed?
nothing, that I have noticed, haven't seen the light on unless I have the door open.
ill have to remember to look for it when it does it again.
it usually takes a while for it to do it again.
when i replaced the starter relay in the auto store parking lot, i thought it fixed it because i havent had any problems since, that was about a month ago
So it did it again yesterday, no Security light.
I had a theory right after that it had to do with my battery connection. There had been once when I first got it where the battery terminal had loosened up, the cable is worn and stripped out a bit, and lost all power when I turned the key.
So I just tightened, didn't disconnect, the negative terminal and it started right up.
it was very misleading because I cant hear my fuel pump and the starter was not going, making it seem like a VATS problem.
