My engine thermometer and oil thermometer haven't read more than a hair over 100 since September. I have flowmasters, and I know they draw some of the heat away from the engine. Is it normal for my car to be running this cool in the winter, or are my thermometers broken?
Incidentally, it hasn't gone above freezing here in Philadelphia for about a month now.
I just drove it home from work (17 miles, half hour). I popped the hood when I came home. I can lay my hand flat on the valve covers without feeling any pain. The intake manifold is actually cold to the touch.
I'm thinking that since its 17 degrees outside, the heat is on, and the fowmasters are drawing away some of the heat, the engine just needs more than a half hour to reach its normal operating temperature.
Thermostat stuck open...Yep that's what it is. Flowmasters want have nothing to do with the engine temp. Jerk the T-stat out and look at it. Its pretty easy to do. :yesnod:
It looks like your thermostat is stuck wide open, even when your engine
is cooled down it will stay open and never let the coolant heat to its proper
temp, the cold weather does not help either.

First time I've ever heard anyone wonder why their Corvette is running so COLD :hurray:
:withstupid:
How does it perform that cold can you feel more power with it that cool. I also got an off the wall ? Is it true that it is better to just start your car and drive it cold so the engine and tranny warm up together?
:lurk: :seeya :flag
Actually, I think the car was more powerful with the engine stuck cold. I took it out for some "unsupervised racing" last night. I was driving it all night and it never went over 110 degrees. I wiped the floor with some guy in a Camaro who *said* he ran a 13.5, but I'm pretty sure he didn't run a 13.5. I really blew that guy away though, I was a good carlength ahead of him when I shifted into second.
But today I replaced the thermostat with a 160 degree thermostat I picked up at Pep Boys, because I'm pretty sure it's not good for your engine to be running at 100 degrees all the time.
In related news, Feenix Autosports is now selling a limited edition zero degree thermostat! That's right folks, it's the ultimate performance mod! It'll keep your engine as cold as your cooling system can possibly make it for as long as you drive it! Supplies are limited, so get yours today! Asking $100.

OK with the new 160 installed, what temp is it running. Also, too cold water/engine does not run at full fuel efficiency or power, do they. :withstupid:
