My son’s 87 corvette has had a parasitic drain issue on and off for quite some time. There was an 1.7amp drain and the first issue was the headlight switch. After replacing the headlight switch it still had a 300mA drain. After replacing the speedometer dash cluster and turning on the key, the security light kept flashing, and the door lights wouldn’t shut off. Turns out the door switch for the courtesy lights wasn’t being depressed in far enough, so I added a washer to make the switch stick out a little further.
NO MORE DRAIN! I believe the initial drain was caused by the dash cluster alone. I’m thinking the dash wasn’t letting the signal for the security warning flash, which caused the system to drain. The final mA drain on the battery, after resolving these couple issues, is now 19mA. Thank God , that’s fixed!
