Saw an LED flasher control at advance today for $19. Pretty cheap investment but I heard the turn signal flasher is a bitch to get to on the late C4’s. I’m definitely going to try the LED bulb on the center first. The reflective portion of the housing and the lense are in great shape on this housing I picked up. It should be really nice. I have a feeling I’m going to want the rest of the rears done once this one is done. I’m sure it will be noticeably brighter. I’d like to try and maintain the stock appearance but better performance. And less melting of the housing. Thanks again guys for all the knowledge and information. I’ll post some before and afters when I get this done. Right now I’m working all weekend while finishing up a radiator replacement in my daily POS in the few spare minutes I have between shifts.

I’m in the process of removing the crazing (fine surface cracks) in the plastic lense of my newly acquired third brake light assembly. Compound wasn’t enough so I’ve moved on to wet sanding with 800 and 1500 on a drill. I’m using the mothers nulens kit to do this which I HIGHLY recommend. It comes with a bit for your drill made of a high density sponge and hook and loop to attach the sandpaper pads and the power ball head. It also comes with compound. Using the power ball and compound works wonders for removing fine scratches and oxidation. Any pitting or crazing has to be removed with the wet sanding first. I have used this with excellent results on all my vehicle headlights and it made my reverse lights on the vette look 1995 new. Stand by for the results. I’ll post photos of the old assembly in the car with its unreversible crazing damage, the new assembly with its minor surface crazing, after wet sanding, and the finished product.

Sorry for the confusion. I’ll change the term to third brake light. Not the high mount like the ZR1 and early C4’s. I’m sorry. And I decided that I wanted to use all stock lenses. No disrespect to anyone that has new LED housings/conversions whatever. I think that they are cool and look awesome. But, I want to retain the 1995 coolness just like I think sawblades and Delco Bose radio systems are cool. I’m not an NCRS wanna be because my car will never be that but some things I like the original look and that’s all. I will, however, be going with LED bulbs.
Some will say I’m nuts and just should have bought an LED housing. Maybe so! But a couple hours of work got me what I was after. See below.
Old assembly in the car. Close up of old assembly in the car. Note how dull it is and the crazing actually runs all the way through. It was not restorable. The new to me housing after cleaning, prior to surface restoration. Zooming in, you can see the minor surface crazing causing dull appearance. After wet sanding with 800 and 1500. Some swirls remain that the compound will remove. Finished product after much buffing with the compound and power ball.
Mothers NuLens kit. Comes with 2 800 grit pads, 2 1500 grit pads, a reusable 3000 grit finishing pad, power ball, compound, and the sponge backing plate which is mounted in my drill. The sponge back plate retains water for wet sanding and works awesome. You’d have to try hard to run the surface dry and melt the plastic. . I have done multiple headlights and other projects and have replaced nothing so far. It’s cheap and it works on anything plastic. Enough said.
I almost forgot. THANK YOU to all who posted here and helped me out with some great info and knowledge. If I get time, I will get the bulb and get this thing back in the car. Happy Thanksgiving a bit early.
