To the average guy these are two different cars. My friends who are not Corvette enthusists to say the lest would have never bought a C4. The average dude will buy the C5 in a second over a C4 cause the look newer. It is the same reason C3s dumped when the C4 came out. Anytime there is a newer model people gavitate toward them.
Go look at a 740i and compare it to a 745i, the 740 just looks old now.
Maybe the C4's bad reputation and negative image among the general public has to do with its resale value. I'm not bashing the c4 in any way, its still my favorite... So before you break out the acetalyne and marshmallows, i'm just providing an answer.

I didnt know they had a bad rep with the general public.
And as for the orig question...wait till the C6 comes out as the C5 prices will totally tank and the diff between similar quality 96's and 97's will be minor. IMHO. :blueangel:

As often as GM changes models thats......6 to 10 years away.
I hope I make no one mad with this post, but I am so glad to see C4 prices keep coming down. I love my C4 so much, in two years I want to buy a second car to drive every day to work. I agree with everyone, these lower prices will only be around for a few years more and watch out. If 70's muscle cars with vinyl roofs cost $50.000 restored at the actions, 20 years from now you will get your money back..... till then lets buy and .....

hmm, I laugh when I see prices that low here on the forum, If I saw a 97 for 10k I would buy it in a second here...(well, maybe a 98). I think the members here on the forum are the worst for killing the resale value of our cars, I never see such low prices in the newspaper, online, in people's front yards or anywhere else, only here. If I were to "buy", this is the first place I would look though because the prices are so low. Go to Edmunds or online classifieds and you'll get an idea what your vehicle is really worth.
What year C4s are likely to be worth more? I own an 84 built in March '83.
The C4 in good shape, rare desirable options, and special edition. I don't think the C4 had a bad reputation with the public, and if it was it not as bad as the C3's. IMO, The olders C4's will go up in value at least a little, when they are consider old corvette, not just another used car. They are a much better performance car than the later c3 and those seemingly are worth more at this time.
I have to disagree...I think C4s are holding their value, and the C5s are dropping out as all those C5 lease turn ins are flooding the used car market!
Also, just wait till the release of the C6!!!
Another point to made...look at how many different "special edition" C4s we have....pace cars from several different years, 35th and 40th anniversaries, Grand Sports and Collector's Editions, as well as the ZR1s. There just aren't as many "special edition" C5s....One C5 Pace Car, and the Z06s, and of course now the 50th.
