1. I would imagine the auto is easier to launch, but if you hook up well the 6speed will be faster.

2. I washed my engine once and the car wouldn't start that night, but it was fine the next day. Personally I think the Opti fiasco is blown out of proportion, although I have the better vented version (95+?)

3. i believe the 0-60 is somewhere around 5 seconds flat (for manuals I believe)

6 speed all the way better first gear than an auto more fun to drive and double overdrive i get 17-18 mpg in the city if i keep my foot out of it

mine made 295 hp at the rear wheels with muffler elems. and a chip. it ran 13.35 like that

never had a prob with opti spark on mine but i put 2 on my moms impalla ss in 3 years so....

I'm pretty sure the 6spd is faster but that auto is really easy to drive.

Probably the only time I had a problem with the optispark is when I didn't see a 6" stream across the road and hydroplaned about 200 ft of it. Car washes with undercarriage spray and regular wet weather doesn't affect it. You have to seriously try and get it wet to mess it up. I even wash the engine sometimes at the car wash and don't have problems.

1) Irrelevent. The 1/4 mile times of the auto and 6spd are equal. the difference is in the trap speed. the 6spd has a higher trap.

2) the opti is a maintenance issue. I have never heard of them "dying" without plenty of warning. codes, bad idle, stumbling, things like that.

3) C&D tested a 1992 6spd, new, and got 0-60 in 5.7. Admittedly, it was a HOT day, about 100*.

4) I have had my vette for 2.5+ years, and 60k+ miles. It has never stranded me or required a tow. In all, quite reliable. Now - it is a bit of a maintenance hog.

Most common cause of opi-spark failure:

- age/mileage (70 - 80K miles)

- water pump leaks coolant onto/into opti

- ignorant lackey at a detail shop pressure-sprays the engine w/ high pressure soap/water or degreasing solution during engine cleanup portion of a complete bumper to bumper detail job.

95 and 96 opti is vented to vacuum to keep moisture related problems minimized.
