Im replacing all the ball joints on my 87 and I ordered some TRQ ball joints online that are upper and lower. I just got them in the mail and the hardware they sent looks inadequate to me. By that I just mean the bolts and nuts look super thin and small.
Should I be weary or am I just worrying over nothing here? Anyone else ever install a similar part?
What's on the head of the cap screw? Are the nuts 'prevailing torque'? What would you have expected?
Head of the bolt says 12.9. There’s some resistance when I screw on the nut if that’s what you mean. I honestly don’t know what I was expecting. I’ve never replaced ball joints but they just seemed really thin at first sight and I thought to myself, “will these be strong enough?”
My just be my lack of experience but I just want to make sure they’ll hold up just fine.
I had the same sort of thing happen with mine on my 86 , The nuts and bolts supplied were not the right grade and ended up stripping two of them before they torqued to 19 ft lbs. I replaced all the nuts and bolts with a higher grade that would take the torque.
The bolts if I remember were 1/4" though, they don't have to be big to do the job.

12.9 is very good hardware. The nuts seem like they're 'prevailing torque' but you might want to buy maybe premium 'prevailing torque' nuts. Not ny-locks but higher quality 'prevailing torque' and make sure there are threads protruding after they're installed. I believe you're likely good there.

The OEM ones I replaced with on my 84 were the same way. Much smaller hardware than the "Rivets" holding the original ones in. But so far so good. IIRC it's a m6 bolt. Torque is something like 11 FT-LB on them... Or a little more than hand tight...
