What should I do
I plan on joining the air force, and wonder what i should do with the enlistment bonus. I'll probably get $12,000 from it. The max is suposed to be $18k i think. So, here's the choices i have

I would wait and see if you get it all at once. I'd be worried about them spreading out the sum in payments. I'd make sure it is in writing.

ok i bought my '90 with my bonus about five years ago. yes i was dumb and stupid. i don't regret buying the vette but i wish i'd invested the money looking back. yes it was fun paying cash for it but invest your money. that's my .02

I dont know....with the way the stock market has been lately most investments have taken a beating. I was putting 12% of my pay into my 401k and at the end of the last year and I ended up with a 3% return....I lost a bundle...I think any given vette is a lot better deal than that :banghead:

Put it into a mutual fund. By the time you're ready to retire it will multiply many times over. I know that seems to be a long way away, But if you were my son that's what I would tell you to do. The right thing is usually the hardest thing also. From 17 to retirement will yield a substantial sum. :yesnod:
