Default Help with hood cable problem

93 C4 coupe- had to replace the hood release cables and now the one driver side latch stays open. It acts like the cable is too short. Did I install something wrong or is this a defective cable. I have it adjusted as far as I can and the latch stays open. This is my first corvette and I have no idea what I am doing.

If the cable is installed correctly, and the latch stays open, I would guess the cable is too short.
Check for movement by pulling the release lever.

Very little movement pulling lever. Can this be installed wrong? What else could be a problem?

Opening and closing a Corvette hood is not rocket science. Pull one end of the cable and the other end responds by moving two plates to an open position allowing the spring loaded hood to pop open.

These 2 videos on the Corvette hood mechanism may not be the best. You might look for others
using a google search.

If you can get by the incessant dialogue of the video maker, the video may help.

I once bought a replacement hood cable that was too short on one side. The problem was solved by buying a cable from a different manufacturer.

The videos helped- a friend did the part under the dash and apparently didn't adjust the cable adjustment sleeve properly. Thanks!

Do yourself favor, and install a safety line to the latch in case your cable breaks. Very simple job, and there may be
100+ posts on the subject. Involves attaching a line to each latch that can be reached with the hood closed. Pulling
the line will open the hood. You may never use it, but it should provide comfort in knowing it is there.

That was one of the first things I added. Thanks!
