I need a new engine
1) Since I am currently an engineering student at NIU, I am not rich. I have been doing some research and have found that Jasper Engines offer a "general" replacement with only around 220hp for $1700. I found another place out in Seattle, WA called S&S Engine Remanufacturing that only rebuilds 350cid engines and offers 3/4 blocks (based on the VIN code) for about $950. They have a stock engine as well as one that is 275 hp. Has anyone heard of these guys and are they any good? Otherwise, where else can I go to get a decent 3/4 block
2) What amount of horse power will a stock intake, fuel injectors, sensors, etc. be able to handle? Since I need a new engine, this would be the time to pull the hp up a bit from the original 230hp. Would the stock fuel sytem and intake system be able to handle 275hp?
Thanks

I have had experience installing engines from a lot of these companies because I have worked in shops where it's not cost effective to rebuild and engine for a customer.
OK, that said, If you put in a remanned engine....... first of all your car will not be a numbers matching car anymore so it will possibly take a hit in it's value. Then , if you keep it long enough that you need to do it again..... you will find that these engines are rebuilt with whatever it takes to make it run again and have some sort of warranty. A quicky valve job ..... bearings and rings ....... reconditioned pistons....... if one or more cyls needs bored they usually only bore that/those that need it. Obviously the engine will now be slightly out of balance. If the crank needs to be cut they only cut those journals that need it and polish the rest so the bearings will live.
Don't get me wrong ....... you may get a lot of service from an engine like this but after what I've seen I'd never go there on a Corvette.
You may want to decide to do some work on your own. You could do an "in chassis" overhaul without pulling the engine unless the crank is hurt. Then you may want to borrow or rent a cherry picker and pull the eng to go through it yourself. There is no black magic in rebuilding an engine..... you may even like it
