Default 1987 C4 Corvette

Hello all. We are new to the corvette and are having trouble taking the top off. All the videos I've watched have different bolts under the visors. Ours have a triangle shape with a big bolt in the middle. Does anyone else have this that can help me?

Thank you

My car is a coupe not a convertible. Not sure what your asking as the triangle can be seen with the top off unless you have removed the trim. If you have, it is the T40 bolt. The bolts are on the underside near the top of the windshield and on the back the bolts are horizontal.

The size of the bolt is T40 torx

If you have the trim off and are trying to identify which one, it is the T40 bolt 2 & 3/4" from the visor shaft. When a top rattles, owners have a tendency to re-tighten the top down pretty hard even when it is already tight. It may take a little bit of muscle if the last driver did this.

You need a Torx T40 bit/male socket (check your center console and rear storage bins for the factory ratchet with permanently attached bit). There will 2 bolts in the front and 2 in the rear (all 4 corners)! Righty tighty-Lefty Loosey👍
edit: If the factory ratchet is MIA, you'll need to make sure your bit is long enough or buy a socket that is 1/4" drive, so it fits in the hole of the trim. If you search "c4 corvette targa top ratchet" on the internet, you'll quickly know everything there is and where to source one! The factory ones are the best, they come up for sale here and can usually be found on eBay, $30-$50, the factory ones have "corvette" molded into the rubber on the handle....do not pay more than $50 for a "real" one, and make sure there's pictures of the "star" shape of the bit, so you can determine if the points have been damaged! I personally would order a factory one, but most corvette suppliers have replacements, either option is better than a socket/bit from the hardware store....now that you own the car, you're gonna need one that stays with the car anyway!!!! Congratulations on your new to you '87, we love pictures, so please post some! If you have problems with your pictures not uploading, turn the resolution on your camera down from say 3:4/64mp to just 3:4, then they'll upload👍
