Default Emblems removal C4

I have a question has anyone removed the emblems from the hood and gas tank lid and if so how did you get them off. I have bought new replacements since the existing are fading. The new one are from GM, so can't get the old ones off and I don't want to damage the paint. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a HowTo video section here in the C4 section. I think theres one for the emblems. I watched one somewhere.

Sunshine is your best friend for the rear. A drop of weatherstrip adhesive to hold the front nut in the socket.

Exactly.......Flip up your gas lid and unscrew it. Screw the new on one.

Then prop open the hood and again unscrew it, screw the new one one. It's easy and no need for dental floss

I don't need to remove the emblems on 91, they are in good shape. Close examination shows a dark material about 1/32" thick that I believe is adhesive. Prior to my C4 purchase I followed a facebook series by a gent who refurbished an 89. IIRC he replaced the emblems and needed dental floss to remove the emblems. If I get a chance to search for it I will post a link.

I wouldn't say adhesive, but double-sided foam tape...yes. Over the years, I've seen C4s with and without it from the factory...and replacement emblems direct from the GM counter with and without the foam tape...same part number. I cannot say for certain if specific years did or didn't have it applied or if it was a manufacturer thing, where one supplier did and another didn't...or if they had the foam tape they used it and if not they shipped the emblems anyway without it...But definitely both with and without on the cars and in the GM boxes/bags👍

Well mine definitely have adhesive on both front and gas lid. I tried dental floss and it wouldn't cut through it, just break. I have watched the videos and a couple of them were pretty good. I'm going to try piano wire to see if it well cut the adhesive. I'll post what happens when I do it. Thanks everyone for your input.

I'm glad you said that, I thought about fishing line but was afraid to use it. Do you have a recommendation as to the strength 5 lbs, 10 lbs ?

With the fishing line, I'd also recommend trying to get some WD-40 in there too. You won't need a ton of it, but it will help cut some of the adhesiveness as you remove the emblems.

Thank you for the idea of using WD-40 to help breakdown the adhesive. I was thinking of using adhesive remover to clean the surface after the removal. Then buffing the surface to remove the built up wax from the years of keep it looking good.
