Default 91 stock needs new tires any suggestions?

My stock 1991 conv. has Goodyear Eagle G-SC's that are the original (275/40Z R17) tires.
I need to replace with similar designed tire. Suggestions would be appreciated...bill in Orlando FL

I put Riken Raptor tires in my car. 275/40/ZR17. They are made by Michelin and have no complaints so far

I put those on my car, they seem very narrow for 275s mounted on wagon wheels (17x8.5s).

Are you sure they are 275’s on 8.5 inch rims? They would have to be something like a 275/70/16 and even those would barely fit.
The widest tire on 8.5 inch rim should be 255

For a mid-price tire I prefer Continental over Nitto. I tried cheaper Toyo once...key word once (can feel the sag when cornering, got what I paid for I guess). good luck!

My 84 had 255/50s on 8.5 and 9.5 wheels, those wheels were wider as they measured inside to inside instead of outside to outside on the 97 wheels. But I do think those Rikens are narrow.

With 275-40R17 you have a few choices. I would say the Riken Raptor would be a great value brand with good performance for the money. Nitto 555G2 offers good performance for a good price, but not exactly a great performance bargain. I have them on my car. They require a bump up in pressure for better turn in and to prevent the tread compound from flat spotting while the car sits. The excellent performance if you have the money choice would be the Continental ProContact Sport. This is what I would do if I had to do it again. Then there are the Mickey Thompson Street Comps which are similar to performance and design of the Contis for maybe a little less money. If I had to rank the 275 ultra performance summer tires it would be Conti, Mickey, Riken, Nitto. Like I said, I have the Nittos and I have grown to like them. I can’t say I love them but they certainly fit my bill. I don’t track the car just some spirited road driving. I had the flat spotting issue fairly bad, but the bump in pressure to 36-37/34-35 F/R pretty much eliminated that.

Depending on budget, I loved the Michelin pilot sport 4 A/S I have on mine. Not the cheapest tire in the world, but very grippy for a 560 treadwear, last a long time, and have unearthly levels of grip in the rain (came 3rd out of ~30 cars in the rain at autocross once, non-pax time).
