I was stopped by a cop the other day for "not having a front license plate" and given a ticket. I have 2 weeks to put the plate on the front or pay a $170 fine. HOW DO I ADD A FRONT PLATE? DO I REMOVE THE CORVETTE COVER OR SCREW THE PLATE ONTO IT?
Oh, and in answer to your question, there are 2 torx screws at the bottom of the cover. Losen them, and take the cover off. Buy 2 license screws at a auto parts store. Install license plate.
I remember I got a ticket the first year I had mine. I got the plate, brought the ticket to court, presented to the judge that I had gotten the plate and just needed to put it on, and the judge dismissed the case before I even got up to the stand to talk (lawyer did the talking as soon as the case was called). That was 4 yrs ago.
Then last year, I was pulled over again for the same reason. I told the cop that I had the plate but haven't gotten around to putting it on yet because the screws holding the cover on are stripped (which is true) and would cost me more to put the plate on by the dealership fixing the problem than to pay for the ticket. He let me off with a warning.
The plate still isn't on and its not going to be. It just looks ugly in the front and has no real purpose to even be needed in the front, IMO. Most cops get your info from the rear plate anyway. :flag
Judging by the number of Vettes I see cruising around CT. with no front plate, I don't think it is enforced too strongly. I obtained a front license cover, right color and all, on ebay, and the nose looks dramatically better w/out the license.
I know my dad got pulled over for the same deal and he told the cop that he wasn't going to put it on no matter what. He said that he didn't intend on being a nice guy or anything but 99% of vette owners don't put'em on because they make the car look ugly and that he was just stating his intentions.

:iagree:
I'm glad that is not requirement to have a front plate in TN :D
I keep my plate in the car. I have been stopped two times about it. I just tell them that I took it off because I was in a car show, and forgot to put it back on. It has worked two times... :)
I brought car from NC (no plate) to OR (front plates required) but really don't want to take off the front cover. So I've shoved the front plate on the dash until someone tells me differently.
just pull off the front lp cover, put some duct tape on the back of your plate and stick it on there, then take a polariod. Then put your license plate cover back on and put the plate under your passenger side floormat. Bring the polaroid to court and ticket will be dismissed, and you will always have the plate in case the po pos try and bug you about it again.

I live in CT also and don't have a front license plate on it, I have the white front insert. If I were to be stopped I'd tell them there is no spot for a front license plate. I have never had a problem here!!
Thank goodness LA doesn't have a front license plate requirement. Now that I've had the RamAir Induction kit installed I wonder where I'd put the plate if I moved to another state that required it?
Where I'm at, it seems that they enforce the front license plate on any car that stands out from the crowd. I like to think -that- rather than to think they just don't like me personally :jester I've been warned with every Mustang or Corvette that I've had to get a front plate. I've seen pleny of sh**boxes that are lucky to have air in the tires, never mind a front plate and they apparently don't care about them (or maybe they think these cars won't be able to take the additional weight).
Take the Corvete cover off with the two recessed screws and mount your plate underneath. I've heard someone else in the forum say that they mounted the cover OVER the plate and the lower part of the license plate WAS VISIBLE so they couldn't be stopped for 'not having a front license plate'... it just wasn't real visible. I'd rather just mount the plate rather than to go through the hassle.
I picked up a colored plate frame from MAD and I think it matches the red pretty good.... although I like the look of the car without the plate much better!
Ive seen couple F-bodies shave the plate and place it on the front spoiler... I think im going to give that a try.. when i do.. i post some pics...
