Default 1985 Fuel Pump replacement

Hello!

Need some help tracking down a replacement fuel pump for my 85. Mine seems to have a pump that I can't find anywhere. I ordered a pump and went to replace it earlier today but realized it won't work with the existing cables. It seems all the pumps have a socket connection that the ground and positive plug into with a plastic connector, but mine is just two loose cables that attach with metal clips.

Does anyone know where I can find a fuel pump that will work with this wiring?

Thanks!

I highly doubt you will find what you're looking for except for a NOS part. My fuel pump was a "surprise" as the previous owner had replaced it prior to my buying it 7 years ago. You need to cut off the old connections and solder the new ones on, or at least that's what I had to do. No parts store had either the sock or gasket but they were still in good enough shape to re-use. And surprisingly it works.

Are you replacing it because it is old or having issues? Can you buy the whole assembly instead? What is the cost difference?

Ok, im leaning towards replacing the assembly eventually. The pump is actually in OK condition from what I can tell, but I wanted to replace it as a preventative measure. I'll keep the pump I bought for the future when I end up doing the whole assembly. Unfortunately my pumps strainer completely disintegrated when I tried to remove it from the original pump. Hopefully I can find a new one that fits. The new pump I got came with a new gasket for the assembly which is good because the original also did not survive. The insulation around the old pump was also disintegrating into the fuel tank which I've removed. The original strainer seemed very dirty and had a large tear in it around its metal rim. It was taking longer than expected to pressurize the fuel rail and sometimes would start rough. This is what prompted me to change the pump out, but now looking at it, I think the strainers terrible condition was limiting flow. I started and ran the engine for a few minutes without the strainer on and it pressurized and started much cleaner. I won't run it again until I have a new strainer on there as I'm not confident in the cleanliness of the tank.
The new pump did come with a plug but the rest of its connections won't connect anywhere else on the assembly without soldering them on myself. Dont have an iron at the moment so i wasnt able to go that route.
Thanks again!

I have an 85 with the original setup, I assume, and plan to just change the assembly out. If I remember right they are around $130-$150.
you may want to put a gauge and see how fast she gets to fuel rail pressure. The 85 has a lower pressure (38lbs) that later years but has a larger injector (24lb). I swithed my 85 over to 86 year and after setup (22lb injector with 43lbs of fuel pressure). When I have idle/running issues I always check my fuel pressure.
