I have looked at all the Corvette parts websites and, altho I may have missed it, I cannot find the rubber strip that goes on top of the windshield header on my '89 vert. It mounts (screws?) to the top of the windshield frame. The front edge of the soft/hard top fits on this to seal. The previous owner said it was in bad shape so he ripped it off...
Damn, the more I look I think you're right. Sooo...a buck sixty for the rubber and then I gotta have the windshield R&R'd.
Maybe I'll just look at my local hardware store for some weather seal...
That is exactly what is glued in to the weatherstrip channel molding. I don't beleive anything from a hardware store is going to do the job unless your car never is in the rain (driven or sitting). The weatherstrip goes across the top and down the windshield pillars on each side. The pic shows the previous owner did a great job removing the old which is most of the work when replacing the weatherstrip.
Good luck!

Only if you really hate the interior of your car.
At worst just buy a cheap Chinese one on ebay. If you actually like your car just bite the bullet and spend the money.
Does the windshield need to come out or just the windshield 'surround'?
I can't tell for sure but I think you still have the weatherstrip going down your pillars on each side of the windshield. The weatherstip is one piece! If you doors windows is in contact with weatherstrip on the side of you will shield that must come off as well. I'm replacing the same piece this weekend. I have everything removed. I will try to get some pictures for you to see. If you find the pie e on line you will see where it mou to and what all needs to come off.
If there is none on the side pillars of the windshield all you have to do is install. Lucky you!!!!
You don't need weatherstripping adhesive or anything. Just a few screws and/or push pins (depending upon the year and whether it was previously replaced).
Just remove all of the old weatherstripping and work the new one in with your fingertips.
