Engine issue. 1992 6spd vette
I had the car for the last 12 years and it's been fine with no issues. August of 2023 I take it to mechanic to fix the AC. He brings it back on a flat bedand says that when he fixed the AC, the engine now just dies. I let the car sit because it's the end of the year and can't bother with this now [I have other pressing matters].
Fast forward to today 7/1/2024. I recently sent the ECM to Mid America and they reset it and returned it. I get the ECM in and the car does the same thing of dying. The letter they wrote me said "If problem persists, remove aftermarket performance chip". I really don't want to spend another 400$ to have some work done on the ECM [Unless it 100% fixes it] but is this a common problem and is there an easier solution than opening the ECM to remove the chip? Im not knoweldable with car computers.
Thanks.
Either the mechanic did something that fried the ecm/performance chip, or the performance chip is completely unrelated.
I would start with some basic diagnostics.
Are you getting voltage to the coil? These coils are known to go bad.
Are you getting fire to each cylinder?
Are you getting proper fuel pressure to the fuel rails? Is each injector pulsing as it should?
