OK I've read every thread on the emergency hood release cables. I have a set of the prefab wire cables and they came with plastic zip ties. Where do the zip ties go? Picture if possible? thanks
There are several u tube videos explaining the DIY construction. I used a length of plastic coated steel cable with crushable steel sleeves similar to an electrical crimp connection. Make a small loop thru the latching mechanism, feed the other end into the wiper galley, make another loop large enough to get your finger thru. Most hardware stores should have the cable and the crush connectors. It only takes a few dollars and a half hour. I'm sure you can also find what you need at McMaster-Carr.
I did that exact same thing on my '90 ZR-1 over 3 years ago when I heard about this problem. Have yet had to use them but glad they are sitting there waiting just in case.
Thanks for the pictures. I had the plastic coated eBay ones sitting here. I undid the loop on the small end and then pushed the wire thru where the original cable goes, and then crimped on a new "Stop". I put the tie wrap where you all did. Works great. I had to remove 1" of plastic coating with a wire stripper to fit the cable thru the latch piece. Thanks

To each his own. That is cumbersome and hard to use. The cables take less than 1/2 sec. to open the hood and are way less expensive and won't scratch your hood.
MRLMD agree each there own, if you ever used one you can pop a hood within 30 seconds too, and there is no way scratching the hood very easy tool to use if needed

I had one in my car and I didn't realize what it was for. Just a couple days ago my hood was stuck down and I had to tear the wheel well out to get the hood open.
