The original owner of my 89 had the Corvette undercoated, yeah I know… an idiot! However I want to continue to remove it from the vette. So I pulled the rear inner rear fender which naturally was undercoated. What’s is a good way to get it off without damaging the inner plastic fender?

I’ve used kerosene with success on inner front fender but it’s bloody messy & scraping can gouge the surface pretty easily. Like I said it’s an odd one but any suggestions are appreciated!

+1 on oven cleaner. My 1975 Ski Nautique had anti barnacle coating and oven cleaner was the solution. Probably similar to undercoating.

I appreciate all the replies and as luck would have it, it was 100 yesterday here. Which meant the plastic was pliable & with the age of the undercoating I was able to flatten small areas pretty well then scrape if off with the 1” gasket scraper. Looks better cleaned up & I will have to try the oven cleaner on the other areas to see how it works.

Looks like a good candidate for dry ice blasting. There are mobile guys that will come do it and in some areas you can rent the machine and buy the dry ice to use in it.

Not only will it remove the under-coating, but any other rust and corrosion as well. The parts that are blasted will look new or nearly so. Lots of YouTube videos showing "how" and the results.

Just FYI there are guys that specialize in this. I have seen their work in person on a friends car and it’s amazing! They freeze it somehow with dry ice and the **** just flakes right off. Clean metal and/or original coating underneath with no damage. Not sure how expensive it is but I can ask my buddy if you want information.

whoops you already said what I mentioned. I skipped over your post somehow. This dry ice technique is absolutely amazing. My buddy’s chevelle floor pans look like brand new factory original. Doesn’t hurt the original coating.
