Default Climate Control/Radio Problems

Hello everyone! I am new here and am greatly looking forward to learning from so many of you more about my c4. I acquired it a couple of days ago for a trade of another car that I owned. I have a 1991 C4 with 30k miles. It is definitely a project, it needs a little of work, but I am very excited about it.

On one of the C4 Facebook groups I posed a question that no one seemed able to answer but there seemed to be consensus that others were having a similar issue and I'm wondering if anyone on here has solved it yet! My car's climate control system does not turn on or function at all. It lights up with the dash lights but I am unable to turn it on and have it function at all. Other people reported a similar problem and that there radio's went out with it at the same time. As I opened up the dash to look more at my climate controls, I noticed that my aftermarket radio is wired in completely separate from the original system. It is tapped into the cars battery, but all the wiring is new and aftermarket and connected to a speaker and sub in the trunk area of the car, it does not play through the stock speakers. I'm beginning to wonder if this was put in due to the fact that the original radio went out and they didn't know how to make it work.

Any thoughts, conclusions, or ideas on how to proceed next out there? They would be greatly appreciated! I would love to have some a/c or at least moving air in the cabin.....

P.S. attached are the picture of my car, what it looked like when I first got it and now. We nicknamed it the Bomb Pop for obvious reasons!

There is a resistor on the fire wall. It goes bad and the blower won't turn off. It is expensive $200+ The cheap "fix" is just disconnect it. That's what Bubba did on my 91 before he sold it. I found a NOS one on eBay for $80. It did the trick. Here is one of the threads on the topic.

it appears that mine is still connected. Is the sensor bad if the climate control is not working and still plugged in?

You should do a search on the C4 forums and you will find many threads about the HVAC system. You do need to by the Factory Service Manual. It is a 2 part soft bound published by GM. You can usually find a few for sale here in the parts for sale section or on eBay. Expect to pay $100 give or take $20. Don't waste your money on Helms or Chiltons. The car looks great now that you have unmasked it! There are several other C4 sites on the web. Most haven't had a post in weeks. This forum is the best.

Anyone have any other thoughts? I have searched through the forum and I could not find anything.

If you look at my 92 Quasar thread, I linked a video that covers the HVAC panel repair. I was skeptical it would work but it did, in fact, work perfectly. You use an eraser to clean the contacts.
