Took my injectors out and tested them, 6 of them wouldn’t work at all, 2 of them worked but wouldn’t cut off at the end of the pulse. Fuel rail full of crud. Bought a new set of Bosch (knockoffs) and they do not have the same slots for the injector retainers. My old injectors had the Bosch tools symbol on them and that’s what I ordered, part number fj681. Is there an alternative way to install them? Seems like the retainer still work but the injector sits higher up and further into the fuel rail. Refer to picture for missing slot and the Bosch symbol.
The retainers are not absolutely essential, the bolts that hold the fuel rain down also hold the injectors in place. The clips make installation easier, as they hold the top but they do not hold the entire injector so their function is not essential.

I changed the Multec injectors on my 96 to Bosch injectors from FIC. I removed the clips from the original units and installed the Bosch without. No issues whatsoever.
