Which chargers are you guys using? I have one but it’s too round and the lighter area is very tight to the point where you need the same dimension as the original lighter for a charger to fit (1991)
Same question for an 88 lighter. The USB I wanted to pop in there is too chubby to let the cover close. Also, since it is full time hot, I don't want to leave that in there anyways.
I bought this one for my 86 and it sits flush, and I can even have two cables plugged in and the cover will still close (but the wires have to stick out the gap of the covers, obviously)
For my '87 Vert. I bought a short USB dual port cigarette lighter charger off Amazon. Yeah, the led light is illuminated when plugged in but it's so short that I can plug a USB cord in and close the ashtray. This outlet is to charge anything while the ignition is off. I installed a second dual port USB/Auxiliary port on the console on the left side. The existing console skeleton below the trim plate that holds the window and mirror selector switch has an existing hole in it. I just cut a hole in the upper trim plate to hold the USB/Auxiliary ports from the double din radio I installed in the dash. Pics attached. Charger plug has swivel metal ring to remove it from the lighter.
Short lighter charger plug in socket and illuminated when plugged in. The black cord is routed to the center console so I can charge my phone with the cigarette lighter cover and the console door closed. Radio USB/Auxiliary ports on the left. I bought some plugs to cover the holes to keep dust etc. out.

This is the skeleton under the top plate that has a hole already in it which I used to locate the USB/Auxiliary port from the radio on the top plate.
