Default Cross threaded wheel nut

1989 with stock wheels

finally taking off my wheels to bleed breaks, and found that when my new tires were put on a few years ago, they cross threaded one of my bolts on the left rear wheel, and of course didn’t tell me. After numerous attempts to get it off, it is now rounded. I tried using a nut extraction socket, but it couldn’t grab it. It was a cheap socket from harbor freight, so that might be part of the problem. Any suggestions?

if it isn't computely rounded you might find a 12 point socket that could fit tight if hammered on... it may ruin the socket but it might get it off if you can do this

you might have to drill out the stud, start with smaller drill and work your way up (you will need good drills) with plenty of drill oil

worse case you might need the blue wrench, ie torch, but that likely damages wheel finish

Thanks. I hammered on socket so that it covered the acorn part of the nut, then air gun spun it right off.
