Default Paint and Polish

I've owned my 1988 Corvette for four weeks now. I want to clean it up, but don't want to make any mistakes. I looked on the Zaino web sight. There are alot of products and information.

My question is, assuming my paint is origianal, does it have a clear coat? I want to purchase the right polish.

Finally are these the steps I should take? Anything you can think of and mention is appreciated.

1. Wash with Dawn to remove any residual wax.

2. Polish with correct Zaino product. ( I will probably want to use the accelerator to put more coats on in a shorter amount of time )

3. In the future wash with a Zaino product?

4. Should it be OK to use a California Duster in between to remove dust and polin?

Thanks for your help.

Dennis

I use the duster a lot, with no ill effects. BTW I love zaino and definately get the zfx to make the curing quicker.

yes you have clear coat and yes zaino is great. i use it myself. california duster works fine unless you have a black car. black paint needs water wash.

Between steps 1 and 2 use a clay bar on the car. The results are amazing!

My question is, assuming my paint is origianal, does it have a clear coat? I want to purchase the right polish.

YES, it has a clearcoat finish on the paint.

1. Wash with Dawn to remove any residual wax.

YES, with Dawn, or any other liquid dishwashing soap.

2. Polish with correct Zaino product. (I will probably want to use the accelerator to put more coats on in a shorter amount of time)

YES, start with the pre-polish, then the swirl mark remover on top of the pre-polish. Then remove when dry. Use the swirl mark remover for at least three coats, but you don't apply the second and third coat on top of a new layer of pre-polish Pre-polish goes on only once. Then the final polish. I don't remember any of the numbers. The one that you choose specifically for clearcoated paint is the one that goes on last.

3. In the future wash with a Zaino product?

I do... I figure that since Zaino is such a specialized product, that the soap is designed to work the the Zaino. Could I be wrong? Possibly, but it definately WON'T hurt.

4. Should it be OK to use a California Duster in between to remove dust and polin?

YES, I just dusted off my 'vette about 20 minutes ago with it, no ill effects. Only every once in a while, it'll leave a small amount of wax in an area. Looks like a streak mark, but comes off very easily and won't harm the Zaino finish. The Zaino does not cause this.
