Hey guys so I have a 96 lt4 with a zf6 I recently replaced my clutch on and noticed that it still had a dual mass flywheel I assume is original it looked a little rough when I had the clutch out but did not have the funds or the time to replace it now I’m looking into getting it replaced I know you can’t get dual mass flywheels anymore so I’ve been looking into the single mass ones you can get and I’ve heard the the findanza ones don’t need to be balanced? If this was true that would make the job a lot easier on me rather than having to send my old one out to a machine shop to get matched to the new one I’ve also heard that the pressure plates usually need some modification to seat properly without chattering. Why dose that entail? Or where could I have that done? I’ve also heard about counter shaft shims to quiet the trans up a bit. Haven’t found much info on any of these things other than vague mentions here and there if anyone had any specifics on these topics it would be super helpful so I get this dang powertrain finally squared away
Still alot of choices out there for flywheels. Do a little more digging into clutch replacement threads on here, too many for me to even start linking them here for you, sorry. If the setup you have now is working tho, why do you want to go back in just for the flywheel change 🤔 The heavier weight is the only real disadvantage of the factory dmf so if it's operating good, I'd probably roll with it. Just my 2-cent opinion tho haha. Happy hunting 🍻

Yes I’ll have to keep digging through all the threads to find my best option right now the clutch has some pretty bad chatter during engagement and I’m worried about damaging the brand new clutch at this point. I’m also wanting to install counter shaft shims if it isn’t too much of an extra project because that gear chatter at idle is quite annoying. Thanks for the response
I am changing my clutch this weekend, I have the shim kit but reading your experiences installing it and given it still rattles, is it worth the effort to install the shim?
I am going with the Carolina Clutch kit with the steel flywheel. I want to keep the originality as best I can, its a Z07 with 42k miles. It started shuddering violently following a few passes down the local 1/4 strip. I am not sure what I'll find as the clutch has less than 5k miles on it, changed it last September.
