absolutely best idea to take on a full restoration at 19-20. I need a new wiring harness as everything about mine in the engine bay is compromised. However I have been made aware of swapping over to a LS style intake such as the pro flo xt and i wanted more information or help on how well it would go. Currently the vehicle will turn over but will not activate fuel injectors or fuel pump however the pump does get power.
Well for one if you want to swap on an LS intake, you'll need to swap in an LS block and heads... Are you an experienced enough welder to modify your engine bay? Not to mention you won't need that wiring harness because nothing on the LS will plug in to it.
The intake you show on the left states vortec style heads, which are different than the 624s on the cross-fire. The one on the right mentions sequential port, which your ECM won't control
Unplug the injectors, then stick a 9v battery to it for 10 seconds. Plug them back in then try and start it. Have you changed the fuel filter on the passenger side frame rail? Have you pulled the fuel line from the pump to confirm you are getting pressure out of the tank? The 3" long fuel line going from the pump to the hard lines in the tank turns into a gummy bear in ethanol fuel, or fuel that has sat for years and become lacquer
For the prices of the intakes you are listing you'd be much better off getting the cross-fire running, or doing a running junkyard vortec 350³ topped with the 7.4L dual 2" throttle body conversion. Plug and play at that point other than the air filter

As a fellow '84 owner what you are attempting is above my pay grade, but this forum is going to be a fantastic place to get the advice you seek. I wish you the best. The thread title gave me a good chuckle.

interesting idea and youre probably right. I am a welder however I saw another thread where someone put a port injection air intake on another 84. The fuel injectors do work I jumped them with a 12v connection and they sprayed some fuel I think its just electrical issues but it would be better to switch to a port injection system as they run better.
I have replaced the fuel filter and drained the line, the hoses are not clogged as I cleaned them out fully with brake cleaner and compressed air when the filter was off. I havent confirmed the fuel pump is properly working yet but I do know its coming on.
also do you know if the vortec would work with the stock auto trans or should I zf6 swap it.
Master Splinter really had his way with your car. Best of luck in your restoration.
(word of personal advice, keeping a good attitude about the project makes the whole process much much easier.)
the car isnt bad just you know splinter did a number on any and every cable in the car. Mostly either radio wires or engine harness are damaged.
im kinda projd of how far ive gotten i just dont know if getting the crossfire running would be worth it but these forums give me hope that i just missed something and the car can run rn.
I would definitely recommend you purchase a factory service manual if you haven't already. A good forum member called WVZR-1 sells them for a pretty good deal, and they are in PDF form so you can have it on your laptop for convenience. Plus, the perk of an FSM is you also get an electrical supplement which can help you track down all of the fun electrical gremlins that may come up with a vehicle of this age (especially after rats launched their all-out assault on the car).
Personally, getting the Crossfire running would be a good first step in bringing this vehicle back from the dead. The system is fairly simple with its two massive injectors rather than the TPI facehugger setup with eight injectors (maybe 9 I think...). The only issues are usually vacuum lines, but chances are you're replacing those anyways. But, if you are dead-set on modifying it to get more power (which is understandable), definitely snoop around the forum first to see what others have done.
I am a "bone stock" type of guy but maybe that is because I fear the costs and risks of tuning a vehicle to make it real mean. But you say you can weld, so that makes you much smarter than me, and probably way more adventurous too. No matter what you choose, the forum will certainly be here to back you up. They have been here for me countless times and I still flock here every weekend to diagnose and fix whatever my car throws at me.

i have a manual you can buy from oreillys its the general manual and the engine specific one pretty good to me so far
Ideally Id like to keep crossfire but parts are kinda hard to find. Which is why I was considering a ls or vortec with a zf6 because the trans is already probably blown as the oil is silver and its like 1800 to get a new one. I got this car to kinda force myself to learn more but honestly ive already known how to do wiring and read schematics so im just mastering that ig😂
No offense, but the books your store and your competitors sell is just a coloring book compared to the FSM the dealerships used. The Haynes/Chilton will get the average car owner thru an oil change or brake job with their pictures, but are beyond lacking when it comes to troubleshooting to the level the FSM will
Not Irish store bashing, I use my local one enough for all our vehicles and trailers to know the guys at the counter by name

Yea I know the haynes are kinda trash but got me info i needed. Do you Know where I can get an FSM?
If you can weld and like to fabricate then an LS swap isn't hard. I swapped my 84 a long time ago. It runs so much better than a Crossfire ever could. I also swapped in a 4L80e transmission. Also not difficult but you need to fab a tail housing adapter. Whatever you decide there are tons of YouTube videos that will show how others have done it. Also build threads here.

Rot Auto sells a Detroit Iron reprint for the '84 that is excellent, and with a discount code you can probably get the manual and the electrical supplement for less than $60.
