Default Aussie looking for 1995 C4 Engine/auto...

Hi everyone!

I'm located in Australia and have recently purchased a 1995 C4 Corvette. I bought the car really cheap, however, it needs a motor, auto transmission and a complete rear end. I have a friend that has spent the last 40 years working on American cars, including C2s, through to C4s, and he is willing to help me complete the car. The body and interior is in awesome condition. To put it into perspective, to get a decent 1992-96 C4 in Australia, you are looking at 30k minimum and there aren't many around.

It would be ideal to source the parts locally but it isn't that easy, there are many more LS1s here in Australia. The car was imported as a race car and I need to get it to original spec in order to be able to register it for road use in the state I live in.

Looking online through Facebook, Ebay and through Google hasn't yielded great results - only scammers trying to rip me off. I'm just wondering if anyone on the forum can recommend a business that specializes in these parts? My friend knows someone in Paramount CA that can organise shipping to Australia. I've been asked to find something closer to that area rather than further always as I assume transport would be expensive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

No matter how you slice it, this venture is going to cost you beaucoup dollars. Also, coordinating all the details from thousands of miles away is going to be a challenge. It would appear there are few parts left under this car. Finding a 4L60E would be easy - finding one with the C beam mount not so much easy. If it was a race car, what about the PCM and any needed electronics? I fear that going this route will have you chasing parts forever. Consider searching for a 94 - 96 that has been beat on like a pedo looking over a schoolyard fence. This could be sourced for relatively cheap since you say your body and interior are good. Check the shipping cost of the entire car and then the cost of the individual parts(assuming you find what you need) and compare. Decide what route you want to take after considering all avenues.

Thanks for the advice, shipping a whole car to Australia is super expensive and worse if it isn't running. I've been quoted 10-15k Australian to get a car here before adding in the cost of the car. I've been told by a mate who imports parts regularly to expect to pay 1500-2000 to get what I need shipped. The car was going to be tuned into a race car but it never happened and the parts were sold off, the motor, trans and rear end.

its gonna be painful getting stuff overseas regardless.....you might get lucky and find a 4l60e, but the fact it needs to be a early one and have the SBC bellhousung over the LS housing may be tricky.

but the rear end....yeah its a special assembly esp if the batwing, suspension arms and what not are gone.

You also gotta source an LT1...kind of a special motor. sadly unlike here i cant imagine you can go to a u pull it and find a C4 Lying around.

if you want deals....Dinos salvage might be your best bet or see if anythings on facebook or whatever over there and get it imported.

its gonna be painful, regardless. but if the body is in good nic its worth saving. not super hard to work on either.

Thanks for the response, the body and interior are almost perfect, it's a shame that it was parted out. Finding an LS in Australia is super easy but the LT1 as you say, is not so common.

Mark might have what you need, but you most likely will need a big wheelbarrow full of money as everyone has said.
