Default Unknown Wire.

Hello I was hoping to figure out what this wire is and where it goes to I am currently working on my brothers 1989 Corvette and have been looking at my 1985 to figure out where it could run to on the 85 it seems to run to the wiring harness and I was guessing it would be the same for this 1989 but just wanted to see if anyone knew considering the 4 year age gap between the cars. I am currently working with limited knowledge and experience with the wiring on these cars since I am only 18.

Maybe it was originally the EGR Diagnostic Switch, Switch/sensor is just demolished? The rest of the switch/sensor might actually still be connected?

This image is from an '89 FSM.

It is the EGR diagnostic temp switch. On the 85 it is located in the base of the EGR valve, under the plenum. In the 86-89 (with aluminum heads) it is located in the external pipe from the RH exh manifold to the intake manifold. 90-91 do not use the switch.

If the switch is not detected 'closed' when EGR is being commanded, Code 32 will set.

Thank you guys for the help i really appreciate it they planned on deleting the egr so im guessing thats why it was such a headache to find because it is not currently in the car and I didn’t want to drag everything out of my 85 so i wasn’t able to see it fully lol.

Do you have the FSM(Factory/Field Service Manual) for your '85 and does your brother have the FSM for his '89?

Sadly I do not have one for either car I’ve mostly got everything completed off of experience of working on my 85 I just haven’t ever had to deal with the wiring being such a mess like it is on his. That egr wire was my last loose end of wiring on the car thankfully.
