Good Afternoon all. I have a 92 LT1 6spd. Here lately, once the car gets up to temp (200-205) and has been there for 10 minutes of driving, it has started spraying coolant all under the hood. I "think" it's coming from the thermostat housing. It only does it while driving, not while it's sitting and it is NOT OVERHEATING. Temp never gets over 205 and it does it with the A/C on or off. It is also intermittent. Basically, if I drive it to work, 12 miles of residential one way, it does it as I pull up to my office or to my house in the afternoon, but not every time. 49k original miles, bone stock and all original. I'm thinking thermostat went out so I'm replacing that, but I didn't know if anyone else had any insight. This car has never given me a day's problem in the 12 years I've owned it.
You need to watch it leaking to see where the leak is. When the engine is cold, open the hood, start it and wait until it starts leaking. It will likely start slowly and get worse as the pressure in the cooling system rises. Be careful to not get burned.
You need to first see where it is "spraying" from. I would borrow a cooling system pressure tester from a box store and see just where it is leaking. That will tell you where the problem is. Dan
