Hi, looking at a 1986 convertible. First time buyer of a corvette. I was told that the 1986 have electrical issues. Other than that, the engine and transmission are reliable, any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much
A lot of armchair mechanics spread false information. This is some of that false information. With that said, any old car can have issues. Some more than others but certainly not more so just because it is an ‘86 Vette.
I have an 86 vert and the only electrical issues I've seen with the car is the wire insulation shrinks on the ends of the wires in the engine compartment.
I used liquid tape to cover the exposed wires. My car is not a show car so taking the time to dismantle the connectors and re-do them properly was not worth the effort for me.
Perhaps after I retire and have more time I will take on the job.

I did the same thing. Liquid Tape works great to insulate exposed wires into connectors.
