Well, my father-in-law gave my boys an 84 C4. It was not running when we got it, but is now. We're working through the issues one at a time.
We have 2 electrical issues. 1st, rear left brake and turn signal does not work. Right side is fine. Running lights work. No power for turn or brake. Have checked all fuses. Any clue where to start start?
2nd issue is the gage cluster. The cluster lights up and all lights and gaugues stay lit at full or max if that makes sense. Thoughts?
Your brake light/turn signal power go through a connector half way down the steering column. could be loose.
As for the cluster, there is a light sensor on the top left side. (I think) I'm not near the car right now so I can't be 100% sure. Anyway, put your finger over this sensor to kill the ambient light and see if it dims. If it doesn't the Batee has a kit to fix it or you can send your cluster to him. He's on ebay or you can look here on the forum for links.
Do you have the FSM(Factory/Field Service Manual) for your car? If you've turn/stop issues on the left rear the wire that feeds both of those sockets is 'yellow'. In the rear harness on the left side pierce the 'yellow' wire before it gets to the sockets and see if there's power there when stop/turn is activated. If there is then you've likely socket issues and having 2 bad I imaginie isn't unusual. If you've no power there then it would be more practical at that point to check at the directional signal connector at the column. The easier check I believe is the yellow at the left rear of the car first.
This is assuming you've got the correct 2 filament bulbs correctly orientated in the sockets and you mention right side is fine so it seems you understand that part.
Update, replaced the gauge cluster, all good there. There was a cut wire at the harness, fixed that and now the brake and turn signals are working, all good for now!
