If your polishing cloth turns black, you are removing a small amount of whatever metal you are polishing.
Polishes are abrasive by their nature. Commercial polishes do not leave a protective film UNLESS IT SAYS IT WILL.
Waxes are not abrasive UNLESS IT CLAIMS TO BE A CLEANER-WAX.
Wrong, a polishing cloth that turns black from your silver is not removing any metal. It's removing tarnish and other surface contaminants. Not any metal all. https://aerolon.com/
I put up the same offer to you. Only now, I'll use my actually high speed buffer. My money is where my mouth is, it's yours?

Wrong.
Remove all the "tarnish and surface contaminants". Get a clean spot on your cloth. Polish some more. Cloth turns black.
Do that as many times as you wish, the cloth will always turn black because it's removing metal.
Check with your friendly local jeweler on this if you don't believe me.
My offer stands. I have a really nice Milwaukee drill too.
Can I drive the sweet C3 from your avatar? Lol. Been wanting a C3 bad lately. Gotta convince my neighbor to sell me his. It's like an 80 L82 manual. He said the transmission leaked out all its fluid from a bad gasket. Sounds like a great excuse for him to sell it to me cheap right? He's been saying he was gonna sell it for years.

Yes, the avatar is a 68 with a 77 Ecklers flare kit on it. 383 stroker, and much much more. You can also drive the 74.
Sounds like he's ready to sell! Go for it!
You can drive the C8 and 68 Camaro SS396 if you have any interest also.

the black oxidized layer it removes is ‘protecting’ a layer of metal below it that is unoxidized.
polish off this oxidation layer and, if you leave the newly exposed layed bare, also becomes oxidzied
(and repeat the process)
so yes, i would agree its removing metal.
ideally, you would polish it then coat the fresh metal surface with something (wax, clear coat, paint etc). And hopefully it wont oxidize again causing you to have to remove metal
Waxing and protecting your paint is very important even if it's garaged. I haven't had the time or the energy to do my '96 Collector's Edition but when I do, I'll start with the usual wash and clay bar. The paint is already in very good shape, so I'll hit it with Meguiar's Machine Glaze #3 to take care of any light swirls. I'm using a Synthetic Paint Sealant now that I really like on my other cars (but the name escapes me), so that comes next. I'll top it all off with a layer or two of Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Carnauba which really makes it pop.
At some point soon I'm going to put the car on jackstands, pull off the wheels to put braided steel brake lines on the car. While I have to wheels off, I'll clean and lightly polish the inner barrels, the exterior, and then apply Gyeon Ceramic Coating for wheels.
Yeah...it's a lot of work. When I do a Full Monty on my cars it's usually a two day process, but SO worth it.
