Problem is that the LCA is under a lot of pressure, be careful. After loosening the nut from the lower balljoint, make sure it's threaded back on there by 2-3 threads for safety, and the spring can help loosen the BJ from the upright/spindle.
What I do is remove the spring first, not that that's easy, but I've done it a dozen times, swapping springs and trying to dial in the ride height, etc.
I have the car on the lift and use a 5' tall bottle jack basically... flat bottom long ram with extensions and end pieces from a hydraulic ram kit. Doesn't solve all the issues easily but helps.
The servive manual talks about a spring compressor tool but shows no pics. Whats involved in taking the lower control arm off?
A spring compressor is not necessary for a car with socks.
Just use two Jack's. One to jack up the car. The other you'll use under the control arm. Loosen the ball joint and and use the jack under the control arm to control is descent.
Dont all cars have shocks? Anyone have a cross section of the c4 front suspension so i can see how the springs work. If it was easy, every one would do it and there would be videos or write ups, there are none.
