Default Ignition Control Module

Just wondering if there are any particular ICM’s I should be looking for. So far I found that Advance carries a GM Genuine Parts ICM and a GM store I found online carries an AC Delco Gold unit. Looking to stay away from the regular parts store brands like car quest and duralast. I figured the ones I mentioned would be best choice although probably all now manufactured in China. If anyone has a new in box OEM one feel free to reach out. Thanks.

regardless of who you choose don't forget the thermal paste between the parts. Very important to avoid heat failure.

Get the genuine GM one. Long story, but aftermarket ignition modules can alter spark timing. There's a table in the EPRPOM that deals with this and it's tuned to the OEM module.

I have found that buying all of the aftermarket inventory auto zone has also can get you back up and running.

Get the part # off of your module and look for an nos on ebay. Good sellers will have them listed that way.

I recently replaced my ICM as part of preventative maintenance. If the ICM fails it can leave you stranded, and I didn't want to take that chance. I know that many say to use dielectric grease, but I recommend using heat sink compound. Dielectric grease is used to insulate electrical circuits. Heat sink compound, as the name implies, conducts heat away from the coil drivers in the ignition module. I was trying to remember why and then saw this in another post.

Yep, which is why I carry a spare with me in the trunk. Also, yes, use heat sink compound.

I've had really good luck with this...
