Hey guys, brand new to the forum as of tonight. I just sold my 91 polo Green 6 speed car that had 73 k on it, and picked up a 1-owner 93 automatic with 41 k on it. The 93 has the stock sawblades on it, with some older Goodyear GSC's on them. I'd like to pull these wheels off and just put them up on the shelf. I really love the A mold ZR1 style rims in silver, so considering ordering a set of those. My question is....my car currently is running with a 285/40 on the rear, and a 255/45 on the front. Has anyone done a 285/35 on the rear, and a 255/40 on the front? I especially don't love the fat sidewall on the front. Just seeing what everyone else has tried and what worked / didn't work.
With 9.5X17 wheels on all 4 corners you also pick up the advantage of being able to rotate front/rear to equalize tire wear.
You will pick up a tad of oversteer. For FE1 suspension the (4) 275/40 on the 92 has a 22mm rear sway bar. The staggered on the 93 has a 24mm rear sway bar. Most drivers probably can't detect the change in balance with a tire size change with no other changes. But the 92 and 93 have different rear sway bar sizes with all else being equal except the staggered tire and wheel sizes.
I just replaced my fronts tires on my 93 with 255X35 from 255X40, just for the look, yep a TAD oversteer, to me look better but even with my 93 being lowered still has a big gap in the finder well, Takes a little to get used to the new way it drives not bad ,I may go back the stock size when it's time for new fronts .. Not100% likening the new way it's drives .
Thanks for all the help guys....gonna order the 17 x 9.5 silver ZR1 set from Top Flight Automotive soon. Still looking at all the options for 275/40 tires to put on em. I'll shoot some pics once it's all together!
I’m also considering 275’s all around, would need to pick up 9.5” sawblades for the front. Tons of great options for 275/40/17. Post an update if you go through with it how it feels.
Curious, do you want to go 35 just for aesthetics? I like a bigger tire, more of a donut look and more comfortable on the road.

I bought another set of sawblades so I could use 9.5" all around. I currently have 275/40/17's all around. I have also run 285/40/17's all around with similar results.
Yes I was originally asking about 35 series for looks only. I just don't like the fat sidewall of the 255 / 45 currently on the front. So after all the feedback, the compromise is the 275 / 40 on all four corners.

Good luck.
yeah that seems like the way to go. What difference did you feel? Better handling?
Just pulled the trigger....for anyone else considering these, I got everything above with free shipping and 15% off (promotion until 1-16), so it was only $1,080.91 in total.
I will definitely look forward to seeing pictures of the car with the new wheels and tires! I have an Arctic White over black 93 6spd. The wheels are original and need refinished and I had thought about going the same route with the A-molds.

OOPS I had a Geriatric moment; I went from stock Front tires 255X45 to 255X40 not 255X35 .. About to get used to the way it drives BUT still thinking the handling and driving was a touch better with the stock tire size, that big side wall just didn't like the look .
